Why Use A Repair Kit?
Every vehicle should have one of these even road cars (normal cars), every vehicle comes with a spare tire, jack and a tire iron but no tire repair kit/plugging kit.
Plugging a tire while it’s still on the vehicle is faster and easier than removing and replacing the flat with the spare.
If you replace the flat with the spare what happens when the spare is streaked as well? With no plugging kit the vehicle will be left with two flat tires unable to travel.
With most tires a simple screw or nail can easily penetrate the tire, with mud terrains it can happen however it’s more like going to be something off road like a pointy stick and this is common shortly after bush fires as the sticks will be hardened.
Light truck tires and all terrain tires can be quite vulnerable in some off road conditions, after bush fires, harsh rocky tracks and overgrown tracks are the usual suspects when it comes to streaking a tire.
After plugging the tire it can be driven on instantly, it is recommended not to be driven on for lengthy distances at high speeds due to the unlikely hood of the plug failing out (which can happen if instructions are not followed carefully).
We have plugged numerous tires and nearly all of those were other vehicles. The odd occasion when it was our vehicles we still drove on those plugged tires for over 15000 km with no leaks or problems and still going strong.
We would still highly recommend that the plugged tire or tires to be patched and fixed from the inside by a tire specialist when you return from your trip.
With this tire repair kit a valve core can also be replaced, valve cores tend to wear over time if off roading due to airing up and down, foreign matter inside the tires (happens with low tire pressures in dirt, water and mud). All these factors contribute to wear on the small rubber O rings/seals.
